Guangdong, previously known as Kwangtung, is a province in the south of China, near the coast of the South China Sea. Its capital is Guangzhou better known in the west as Canton. Previously the most important trade port for the East India Companies trading to China during the 18th century. It was earlier denominated as the only permitted entry point for foreign embassies arriving to China.
