Could you tell me something about this

I would appreciate if you could tell me something about this new item.

Laughing Buddha

This piece is a so-called "Laughing Buddha". It is the Maitreya (Sanskrit) Coming Buddha. The age is hard to tell but you could get a clue from its weight as with all Chinese figures.

If the wall of the piece is thin, it is likely to be less than 50 years old. The perfectly round hole in the base also signals a rater late date. You should take that together with a low weight as an indication of recent make.

This "Laughing Buddha" is anyway less than a hundred years old in any case, since I do not think they were made much before then.

Any further information or any different opinion would be appreciated.

Thank you for your interest.

Best regards,
Jan-Erik Nilsson
